December Daily Gratitude #27:
I am so thankful to have an awesome husband.. even though he’s currently singing stupid rhymes in my ear and correcting my grammar as I type. Eleanor was NOT interested in sleeping tonight, even though we went through her usual bedtime routine. I’m wondering if it’s because we didn’t really leave the house today, or the fact that she’s probably teething. I noticed today that she’s got some molars and canines coming in. Or maybe it’s just because all the excitement of the past week has finally died down. Whatever it was, she was NOT happy tonight. I was hoping I’d have a lot of time this evening to clean and prep for tomorrow…. oh well.
Day #27 – Thank yous and Planning
I’m always looking for ways to get Ellie involved in whatever I’m doing. Safely and without ruining my plans completely. I started out this morning trying to put together a decluttering plan for the new year, but Eleanor was completely frustrated that she couldn’t have my pens to color with. So I decided to divert her attention to some thank you notes that I allowed her to write on. So you might receive an extra-embellished thank you note from us sometime soon.
While Ellie did her “business work” and worked on her thank you notes, I finally broke down how I’d like to spend my time decluttering next year. I basically determined how much time each section of my home would take to clean by hour, and how many days that would take if I only worked after Eleanor was asleep. It’s going to take a while, but I think I’ll be able to finish this project a month before baby is due.
Oh it’s going to get so much worse than this.
It is.
I have thought long and hard about why we haven’t been able to just put things away where they belong. And it’s mostly because the office is a hot mess and there’s nowhere for things to go. The things that are cluttering up our kitchen and dining room… are things that actually belong in the office. So I’ve decided that the first three things that need to be decluttered are:
1) Kitchen Island – Just need the space to be clear so that I’ll have a place to plan and sort through things. In theory this should be a place I make sure is clean every night, but you know, life.
2) Our bedroom – Ok, in truth this room isn’t that terrible, just things that aren’t completely put away and things that belong in the office are in here. But I LOVE being able to go to sleep in a peaceful environment, and that’s not how things are right now. SO, bedroom tidying is my priority. It really shouldn’t take long.
3) The Office – LET THE WHOLE HOUSE EXPLODE!!!! Yes I think that’s the best description of what’s going to happen once I start working on the office. But I’ve been putting it off for too long, and the office’s lack of functionality is completely messing up the flow of the rest of our house. It’s time to eat that frog, take Just One Bite, git er done, or however you want to say it.
