Doing December Daily #1

December Daily Gratitude #1:
Today I am grateful for my husband. My daughter has been teething like crazy lately, which has made her extra clingy to me… and I just really needed a break. So I made myself a nice big cup of green tea and went to run errands by myself. Nate has been a huge help during this pregnancy. ESPECIALLY during the first trimester when I was constantly sick and practically useless. So I really appreciate his support and help when I need it and how hard he works for our family in general.

There’s no real structure to what I’m doing here, but without tidying a little bit first, it feels impossible to declutter.

Starting Something New:
Since I’m finally feeling better in this second trimester, I thought it would be fun to try something new. I’m really trying to light a fire under my ass about decluttering and tidying up. Now that I have the energy to actually do things, I’m going to attempt a full home purge. And I realize it’s going to probably be difficult because it’s the holiday season, but I’m reaching my breaking point.

There’s no real structure to what I’m doing here, but without tidying a little bit first, it feels impossible to declutter. So with each section of my home, I’ll start with putting things away and tidying a little. Once I feel like I’m no longer drowning, I’ll go through most, if not all, of the items in the room and see what I can get rid of.

I know I’m not ready for a complete jump into extreme minimalism, but I know that we have an excess of things in our home that do not need to be there. So we’ll just start with that. I’m not going to try to tackle anything emotional until I’m in a less stressed out state. So here goes nothing…

Day #1 – Tidying the Kitchen:
I am so embarrassed by my Kitchen. My whole home sometimes in fact. It’s such a beautiful house, but I just haven’t been able to keep up. There’s just too many things in it for me to manage. So as I mentioned before, I’m starting with tidying and then decluttering.

My kitchen. Before tidying… obviously. Yikes!
My chairs are on their sides because my toddler keeps climbing the bar stools to our island….

Rather than feeling guilty all holiday season that my home is a mess, I have decided that every day I will think of all the things that I am grateful for and use that as motivation to clean and declutter my home. I am so blessed to have a wonderful family and home, all I really want to do is take care of them in the best way possible.

“Doing December Daily” is just my way of reminding myself to be intentional in what I do every day this month.
